  1. Yearlong Space Station Mission: Jan. 15 Briefings

JSC will hold two briefings today to preview the upcoming Expedition 43 mission aboard the ISS and the launch of the crew embarking on a yearlong mission.

At noon EST, an ISS and Science Overview briefing will cover mission priorities and objectives.

At 2 p.m., the ISS will discuss their upcoming mission.

View the event using JSC EZTV IP Network TV System on channels 404 or 4541. Note: EZTV currently requires using IE on Windows PC or Safari on Mac. Mobile devices, Wi-Fi, VPN or connections from other centers are currently not supported by EZTV.

First-time users need to install EZTV Monitor/Player client applications:

    • Users WITH admin rights, download /install the clients on IPTV website
    • Users WITHOUT admin rights, download EZTV client applications from ACES Software Refresh Portal

  1. Rebroadcast of Back in the Saddle Jan. 21

Rebroadcast of Back In The Saddle - Did you miss Wednesday's event featuring Mark Rohr? If so, it will rebroadcast at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Jan. 21, and Friday, Jan. 23, on the JSC cable TV system on Channel 2 and the JSC IP network TV 402.

You can view the event on JSC cable TV channel 2 (analog) or Omni 3 (45). JSC/Ellington/Field/SCTF/WSTF employees (hard wired network connections) can view event using EZTV IP Network on channel 402. Please note: EZTV currently requires using IE on Windows PC or Safari on Macs. Mobile devices, Wi-Fi, VPN or connections from other centers are currently not supported.

  1. Flight Controllers AND Flight Instructors Wanted

Test Subject Screening (TSS) is seeking flight controllers AND flight instructors (including those in training flow) to evaluate a self-guided, multimedia stress management and resilience training computer program called SMART-OP, in comparison to watching videos and reading information on stress management.

Volunteers will:

Complete one information/consent session (via telephone-10 minutes)

Attend two assessments (pre and post - 60 to 90 minutes each) involving questionnaires, neuropsychological tasks, physiological data and stress biomarker samples in 4N

Attend six weekly computer-based stress management training sessions (30 to 60 minutes) in 4N

Complete a three-month follow-up questionnaire (15 minutes)

Total of 10 sessions

Volunteers must be healthy, non-smokers, taking no medications and have a current Category I physical.

Volunteers will be compensated. (Restrictions apply to NASA civil servants and some contractors. Individuals should contact their HR department.) Please contact both Linda Byrd, RN, x37284 and Rori Yager, RN, x37240 if interested.

We all enjoy wearing sweaters and laughing at Texas meteorologists freaking out over near freezing temperatures this time of year.   1. Deadline Approaching for Micro-g NExT

Just 2 more weeks for undergraduate students to apply for JSC's newest student research activity at the Neutral Buoyancy Lab (NBL) and we need your help to get the word out! Micro-g NExT, or Micro-g Neutral Buoyancy Experiment Design Teams, challenges students to design and build prototypes of spacewalking tools and then travel to Houston in summer 2015 to test their prototypes in the simulated microgravity environment of NASA's 6.2 million gallon indoor swimming pool - the NBL. If successfully tested these, student designed tools can be used by astronauts for spacewalk training! The deadline to apply is Jan. 28.

No Boundaries (NoBo) is being formed to pick up the excellent work of the disAbility Advisory Group (dAG) to eliminate barriers to full inclusion and immersion of disabled employees into the JSC workforce, as well provide support and solutions to those caring for loved ones with disabilities. We will discuss proposed awareness activities for the coming year and explore opportunities for improving the accessibility of JSC. This 8-hour course is intended as an overview of the ISS requirements and will introduce the payload safety/hazard analysis processes. It is intended for those who may be supervising or assisting those with the responsibility for identifying, controlling and documenting ISS payload hazards. It briefly describes ISS payload safety requirements (both technical and procedural) and discusses their application to payload analysis, review, certification and verification.   1. Project Management & Systems Engineering Forum

The next JSC Project Management & Systems Engineering Forum will be Friday, Jan. 23, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Building 1, Room 966. Mr. David Zuniga will be presenting the topic: "Systems Engineering in Oil and Gas: The Beginning." This topic will briefly discuss the similarities and differences that exist between existing oil and gas processes and a typical systems engineered program.

Mr. Zuniga worked as a systems engineer in Lockheed Martin's Aeronautics Division. He left the space program to work in the oil and gas industry and has since returned. Currently, Mr. Zuniga is a systems engineer for Lockheed Martin with the ECLSS team in the Orion program.

All civil servant and contractor project managers and systems engineers are invited to attend.

  1. Family Space Day at George Observatory

The Expedition Center at the George Observatory is holding a Family Space Day on Saturday, Jan. 24 from about 3 to 8 p.m.

For purchase, are tickets to complete a 45-minute Expedition Center mission to the moon! Expedition Center mission tickets may be purchased for $10 a person online.

After enjoying a trip to space, stay for the evening and look at the night sky through our telescopes. Telescope tickets can be purchased at the Observatory gift shop.

George Observatory is located in the heart of Brazos Bend State Park. Admission to the park is $7 for adults; kids under 12 are free.

  1. Gregg Elementary School Science Fair Volunteers

Don't Forget to Sign Up! The AAERG is still looking for volunteers to support Gregg Elementary School students with their Science Fair projects. Volunteers are needed any Tuesday or Wednesday from Jan. 20 through Feb. 11 to assist students with their science fair projects. Volunteer times are from 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. each day. Their focus this year will be on Properties of Matter, Light and Energy. Please sign up in V-CORPs for each day that you are available.

  1. Are You Ready to Change a Middle Schooler's Life?

Citizen Schools, a national education non-profit, helps underserved middle schools by expanding the school day. The organization fills the additional time with academic support and hands-on, real-world apprenticeships taught by volunteer Citizen Teachers. NASA provides Houston-area apprenticeships and is looking for additional volunteer teachers. A typical Citizen School apprenticeship is about 1.5 hours per week for ten weeks, which can be distributed among many individuals.

If you are interested in this program, please attend one of two information sessions on Jan. 21 from 12:00-12:30 p.m. or 1:00-1:30 p.m. in Building 1, Room 820. Questions or interest can be directed to Bara Reyna, b.reyna@nasa.gov, x46297.
